SESSION #8 - Debate Resources
DEBATE PREPARATION ADVICE FROM DR. HYNES:
"I always find a good starting point to be to anticipate the case for expansion of transit—what are the arguments most likely to be advanced to support the proposition. Beginning with that list (and I would have the who group share in the development of that list), I then begin to identify answers to each of those claims.
Then, the group looks to develop a series of potential claims of 2 other kinds—that the projected benefits of expansion will not be achieved by expansion (for example, many other reasons why talent won’t come to metro Atlanta even if transit is expanded), and disadvantages to expansion—deflection of resources to transit would limit investments in highways (or even education), for example.
These parts come from research, but most of that will come easily from quick google searches."

CIVIC HEALTH CLASS PROJECT
Survey Results and Comparisons
Class project Q&A will go here!
QUESTION: Is this the first year the survey has been conducted? Are there plans to use this as a benchmark going forward?
ANSWER: This is the first year this survey has been conducted in Fayette. NCoC was looking for local county partners and we reached out to participate knowing that Leadership Fayette would be the perfect organization to collect and analyze the data. We were the first county in GA to become a partner. The primary reason we wanted to participate is so that we can continue to participate and have ongoing benchmarks for years to come.
QUESTION: Is the Chamber aware of a single location where nonprofits can post volunteer needs and events?
ANSWER: There is not a single site that lists events or needs that we are aware of. We had an online partnership 5 years ago called Chamber for Good that attempted to solve this problem in a single online location, but it was not successful for a variety of reasons. It has since been suspended.
